“We have a disabled veteran and his family who are in need of assistance with their vehicle payment to prevent repossession. Will served in the Army for 13 years and has continued his service in the Reserves since 2015. He started to notice that he was struggling with his mental health and was diagnosed with PTSD shortly after. He’s married and they have 3 special needs children ages 8, 10, and 14, leaving his wife unable to work so that she can care for them. Last year they received a letter from the VA stating that they would be taking money from his disability because he was getting paid for his Reserve time. They were unaware that this would happen, but they are working on a payment plan to get this resolved. While this was going, they had an issue with the heating and air system in the house they were renting over the summer months which skyrocketed their utilities. Between these events and paying for the cost of healthcare for the children, they’ve fallen behind and their car is about to be repossessed.

The family has worked with our Financial Coach to complete a budget and financial counseling. We’re continuing to work with them on work from home opportunities, connecting them with a VSO to help with the debt waiver and increasing Will’s VA disability rating, and getting his wife enrolled in the caregiver program. They currently owe $751.46 by March 1st, otherwise, their car will be repossessed.”

Car debt: $750
